Werent
Privacy Charter
How we collect, use and protect your personal information.
Werent Pty Ltd operates the Werent rental marketplace. This charter describes the personal information we collect through the website, tenant and agent portals, and mobile apps, and how we handle it under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.
What we collect
- Account details: name, email, phone, and authentication metadata
- Rental applications: identity documents, income evidence, rental history, and screening consent
- Enquiries and messages between tenants and listing agents
- Search, shortlist, and saved-alert activity needed to run the marketplace
- Payment records for promotions, subscriptions, and screening fees processed by Stripe
How we use it
We use this information to create accounts, publish and moderate listings, submit applications to agencies, process payments, prevent abuse, and improve search. Applicant documents are stored in a private bucket and are available to the tenant who uploaded them and to the agency for that listing. We do not sell personal information.
Sharing
We share information with the agency attached to a listing when you enquire or apply, with payment and hosting providers that process data on our instructions, and when required by law. Screening-provider integrations (for example Equifax, TICA, or NTD) are not live yet; if they launch, we will collect explicit consent before sending applicant data.
Security and retention
Access is authenticated with Supabase JWTs, scoped by role, and transmitted over HTTPS. We keep application and enquiry records while a tenancy process is active and for a reasonable period afterwards for dispute and audit purposes, then delete or de-identify them.
Your rights
You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information we hold, and you can complain to us or to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner if you are not satisfied with our response.
